EIKOH HOSOE
[b. 1933] Japanese photographer and filmmaker

I am not interested in pattern photographs or making designs; I am interested in photographing human beings with sex. That is all I want to say. I would like to express Love in my nude photography. This love must flow like a stream beneath all photographs of the nude. I believe photographers should emancipate nudes from prison where they are sitting like stones. - Eikoh Hosoe , Views on nudes by Bill Jay , ISBN: 0240507312 , Page: 92
The camera is generally assumed to be unable to depict that which is not visible to the eye. And yet the photographer who wields it well can depict what lies unseen in his memory. - Eikoh Hosoe
To me photography can be simultaneously a record and a “mirror” or “window” of self-expression. - Eikoh Hosoe
When you take a photo at 1/1000 of a second, the moment can become an eternal fact, an eternal moment. So we have a philosophical problem of objectivity and subjectivity. - Eikoh Hosoe
To me, a photograph is both a record and a testimony, mirror and window... in which inside and outside are as one, ever-changing... The camera is generally assumed to be unable to depict that which is not visible to the eye. And yet the photographer who wields it well can depict what lies unseen in his memory. - Eikoh Hosoe
